(about 8 hours later)
More than 200 police officers on Merseyside have carried out dawn raids targeting drug activity by two notorious gangs. Thirty-one people have been arrested after drugs and guns were seized by police in a series of dawn raids to target two notorious rival gangs.
Police arrested 28 people across Croxteth and Norris Green at 0700 GMT in an operation to disrupt rivals, the Croxteth Crew and Strand Gang. Four guns, a silencer, ammunition, class A drugs and about £15,000 in cash were found.
Supt Paul Richardson said the gangs were suspected of supplying large quantities of class A drugs. The operation targeted two of the city's major criminal groups - the Croxteth Crew and The Strand Gang.
A firearm, ammunition and £7,000 cash has already been been seized. Police believe they are responsible for the supply of drugs including cocaine, heroin and ecstasy.
The raids, on 31 addresses, were carried out following 12 months of undercover surveillance on suspects and their houses. The raids, on 31 addresses, were carried out following 12 months of undercover surveillance on suspects and their houses.
