Texas shooting: Gunman hunted at military hospital Texas shooting: Gunman one of two dead after opening fire at El Paso military hospital
(about 1 hour later)
The US army is searching for a suspect after an “active shooter” was reported at a West Texas military hospital. A gunman has opened fire at a veterans' medical clinic in West Texas, killing one other person.
Fort Bliss spokesman Gil Telles said an “active shooter” has been confirmed at the William Beaumont Army Medical Centre in El Paso. Fort Bliss Major General Stephen Twitty announced on Tuesday night that the shooter was also dead. Gen Twitty did not say whether the gunman was shot by responding officers. He also did not provide any details on the victim of the shooting at the El Paso Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Douglas Lindquist with the FBI said there are hundreds of potential witnesses, most of whom were seeking medical care. The FBI will be interviewing those witnesses. The clinic is in a complex that also includes the William Beaumont Army Medical Centre.
He says he has no information on casualties or arrests. However, the entire hospital complex and its adjacent veterans' hospital have been placed on lockdown. Associated Press
The incident was reported shortly before 6pm local time.
