A siege situation at a kosher supermarket in eastern Paris is underway. Several hostages have been freed and an armed man has been killed after a siege at a kosher supermarket ended in eastern Paris today.
French media reports that an armed man entered the Jewish-run supermarket in the Paris suburb of Porte de Vincennes at around 1pm and has since taken at least five hostages. Police confirmed earlier that hostage-taker Amedy Coulibaly, 32, is now dead after holding several hostages for over four hours at the Jewish-run Hyper Kacher supermarket in the Paris suburb of Porte de Vincennes.
There are unconfirmed reports that two people have been killed as a result of the siege and a police officer told The Independent that at least one shop worker had escaped. Reports say that two of the hostages were killed during the siege.
Police have announced they are now pursuing Hayat Boumeddienne and Amedy Coulibaly as the two suspects wanted in connection with the Paris siege. Live images from the area showed emergency services flooding the building following the police operation.
French police are organising operations outside of the supermarket as they try to deal with their second hostage situation of the day. The news followed reports of six explosions as police entered the building.
