Update at 11:42 a.m.: Pockets of heavier snow are moving through the region. A heavy band appears to be setting up on a line just north of Culpepper to Manassas, and then beyond to the southwest. Areas along this heavier band could see some of the higher accumulation as the band travels east-northeast. This heavier band could also move through D.C., so we’ll be keeping our eye on it. | Update at 11:42 a.m.: Pockets of heavier snow are moving through the region. Update at 11:16 a.m.: Almost everyone west of I-95 is seeing snow at this point. Temperatures have been holding steady for the past couple of hours in the mid-30s across the metro area. Though large flakes are falling at a moderate clip in some places, accumulation on the roads is hard to come by in the immediate metro area with the warmer ground temps. Reagan-National was at 38 degrees at 11 a.m., and Dulles reported 32. | Update at 11:16 a.m.: Almost everyone west of I-95 is seeing snow at this point. Update at 11:00 a.m.: The first (very light) flakes are falling in the District as snow is spreading east through the Metro. Radar suggest that light snow, possibly mixed with rain, is falling as far south as Manassas and Dale City (though we don’t have ground reports to confirm that yet). | Update at 11:00 a.m.: The first (very light) flakes are falling in the District as snow is spreading east through the Metro. On a side note, what radar you’re looking at definitely matters! We tend to monitor radar via two sources here at CWG — RadarScope (which is a mobile app from WDT) and Weather Underground (which as an interactive map as well as single-site radar). Recently, Weather Underground updated their radar palettes but don’t appear to have the leveled fine-tuned for snow, which appears much heavier on their maps than what we’re seeing from ground reports. It looks like RadarScope is giving us a better indication of what’s actually falling. | On a side note, what radar you’re looking at definitely matters! At 10:35 a.m.: Ground reports indicate that snow has been falling along and west of I-81 for about an hour now. Light snow is moving east toward the D.C. metro, reported in Loudoun and Prince William counties. Frederick, Md., has been seeing steady large snowflakes for about a half hour. Snow reports seem to be on the wet and heavy side — something that the warmer temperatures support, as well. | At 10:35 a.m.: Ground reports indicate that snow has been falling along and west of I-81 for about an hour now.
