Man wanted for killing off-duty policeman arrested in Germany
Version 0 of 1. A British man who was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant for the alleged killing of an off-duty police officer in Liverpool has been arrested in Germany on suspicion of murder. Timmy Donovan, 30, from Huyton in Merseyside, was arrested by German police at Dusseldorf Airport as he was attempting to a board a plane back to the UK, according to Merseyside police. Donovan, also known as Timmy O’Sullivan, was wanted for the alleged murder of PC Neil Doyle, 36, who was attacked in Liverpool city centre during a night out with colleagues. A man and a woman who were arrested by detectives investigating the death of the police office were released on bail on Christmas Day. Two other men accused of murdering PC Doyle made their first appearance in court days earlier and were remanded in custody until a later date. Merseyside police had made an appeal for assistance from the public in tracing Donovan, who was understood to have left the UK at about 8.30pm on Friday 19 December. Detectives had believed that Donovan was in Europe, possibly Spain, and were working with the National Crime Agency, Europol and European police forces to locate him. PC Doyle and two other off-duty officers were said to have been attacked in Colquitt Street at around 3.15am on 19 December. The other two officers were treated in hospital for facial injuries, while a postmortem examination concluded that PC Doyle died from a fatal bleed around the brain. Following his death in hospital, his widow Sarah said in a statement: “Neil was very well loved by all of his family, friends and colleagues and it is a great loss to us all. “We are finding it extremely difficult to come to terms with what has happened and need time to be left to grieve.” The couple married in July and were due to go on their honeymoon at the start of 2015. |
