Woman's body found in Glasgow park Park body was missing grandmother Anne Rooney
(about 9 hours later)
Police have begun an investigation after a woman's body was found in a Glasgow park. A body found in a Glasgow park was a pensioner who had been missing from her home in Lanarkshire since last Monday.
The discovery was made near Tynecastle Street in the city's east end at about 16:00 on Sunday. Wilhelmina Rooney, known as Anne, 71, was last seen by her husband at their home in East Kilbride.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death. Police confirmed that her body had been found near Tynecastle Street, Glasgow, on Sunday, and said her death was not being treated as suspicious.
A police spokesman said the death was currently being treated as "unexplained" and a formal identification had still to take place. On Friday, members of Mrs Rooney's family made an emotional appeal for her return.
A large-scale search, involving police dogs and helicopters, had taken place.
Sightings of the pensioner were reported in East Kilbride and her buss pass appeared to have been used on Glasgow buses.
