6:00 a.m. update: Roughly one to two inches of snow fell overnight, with some pockets of higher amounts north and west of the Beltway. Light snow continues to fall this morning with temperatures in the upper 20s to near 30. The steadiest activity is northeast and southwest of the Beltway, generally moving in a north to south direction.
Many side roads are snow-covered and slick, and many schools are delayed or closed, while the Federal government is opening two hours late.
Snow showers and flurries are likely to continue through between mid-morning and noon, but probably only adding a dusting or so on top of what has fallen.

FORECAST IN DETAILFORECAST IN DETAIL
As the blizzard blitzing the Northeast slowly departs, we’ll see the chance for some wind-whipped flurries and snow showers this morning that taper off.  We hold in a cold pattern through much of this week, but at least squeeze out some sunshine Wednesday.  Clouds increase with another clipper system on Thursday with a round of rain and snow showers.  The weekend kicks off quite cold as we set the stage for another possible winter storm arriving late Sunday into Sunday night.
Today (Tuesday): Scattered snow showers and flurries linger this morning and a dusting or so can’t be ruled out (on top of what fell overnight).  Most areas should be below freezing during the morning commute, so be extra cautious on untreated paved areas and side roads as some may be snow-covered and black ice is always a threat.  Cloudy skies dominate the day (though maybe some brightening skies late) with winds from the northwest at 10 to 15 mph picking up to 15-20 mph with higher gusts this afternoon.  Highs only manage to reach the mid-to-upper 30s, but that wind chill frequently makes it feel like the 20s instead.  Sorry.   Confidence: MediumToday (Tuesday): Scattered snow showers and flurries linger this morning and a dusting or so can’t be ruled out (on top of what fell overnight). Sorry.   Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Any chance we have at sun should be quite welcome after all of the cloudy days this month.  Despite the sun, we only manage to see highs in the mid-to-upper 30s. There’s still a nagging breeze, blowing from the north and northwest at 10 to 15 mph enhancing the wind chill.  Confidence: MediumTomorrow (Wednesday): Any chance we have at sun should be quite welcome after all of the cloudy days this month.  Despite the sun, we only manage to see highs in the mid-to-upper 30s. Tomorrow night: Mostly clear skies and ebbing winds set the stage for our potentially coldest night of the workweek. Lows dive into the lower to middle teens in the outer suburbs to the lower 20s in the city.  Where snow cover remains, it could even get a bit colder.  Confidence: MediumTomorrow night: Mostly clear skies and ebbing winds set the stage for our potentially coldest night of the workweek. A LOOK AHEADA LOOK AHEAD
Thursday marks the start of yet another weather system.  A fast-moving Alberta Clipper pours clouds into the region by midday with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain and snow showers by mid-to-late afternoon.  Highs probably range in the middle to upper 30s. Snow showers may continue into Thursday night. We could manage some light accumulations from the event depending on the disturbance’s track and timing.  Lows drop into the upper 20s to low 30s as clouds linger late.  Confidence: Low-MediumThursday marks the start of yet another weather system.  A fast-moving Alberta Clipper pours clouds into the region by midday with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain and snow showers by mid-to-late afternoon.  Highs probably range in the middle to upper 30s. Friday sees clearing skies, is breezy, and features humidity falling off a cliff in the afternoon (meaning the air mass gets very, very dry).  Highs still get up into the lower to middle 40s.  But look out for much colder conditions Friday night as an arctic air mass cuts through the area. Lows by early Saturday morning could range from the upper single digits in the suburbs to the middle teens in the city.  Confidence: MediumFriday sees clearing skies, is breezy, and features humidity falling off a cliff in the afternoon (meaning the air mass gets very, very dry).  Highs still get up into the lower to middle 40s.  But look out for much colder conditions Friday night as an arctic air mass cuts through the area. The weekend starts very chilly with highs on Saturday ranging from the middle 20s to low 30s despite mostly sunny skies.  Clouds roll back in Saturday night with lows in the 20s.  Sunday aims for cloudy skies and we anxiously watch the approach of another storm system.  With much stronger cold air in place, we could see snow arrive in the afternoon and increase in intensity for Sunday night.  We’ll be watching this one very closely, but it is still several days away (if you recall, the models didn’t get a firm handle on the current Northeast blizzard until only about 3-4 days in advance).  Highs Sunday in the 30s.  Confidence: Medium Saturday and Low SundayThe weekend starts very chilly with highs on Saturday ranging from the middle 20s to low 30s despite mostly sunny skies. Confidence: Medium Saturday and Low Sunday
