'Kindest individual'
A Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) statement released following sentencing said Ahmed attacked his wife "with a large kitchen knife" and a "metal table leg causing numerous, severe injuries".
Ahmed was arrested after fleeing the house when officers noticed he had bloodstains on his coat and was sweating heavily.

CPS London chief crown prosecutor Baljit Ubhey said: "Tahira Ahmed was murdered in her own home, a place where she should have felt safe.
"I hope the sentence today provides some comfort to Tahira's family. Our thoughts are with them at this time."
Det Sgt Nick Miller said: "This was a senseless and brutal attack of a defenceless wife and mother in the family home."
