Version 0 of 1. Rasheed Sulaimon’s career at Duke began in very promising fashion. It ended Thursday in a shocking way, as the junior guard was kicked off the team. According to the Raleigh News & Observer, Sulaimon became the first player ever dismissed by Coach Mike Krzyzewski, who said in a statement that the guard “has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program.” Sulaimon was described by the school as being in good academic standing and on track to finish the spring semester. “It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner,” Krzyzewski said. “After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.” “It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner,” Krzyzewski said. “After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program.” It is unclear what, specifically, Sulaimon did that represented the last straw for Krzyzewski, but the junior was said to be moody and was known to have been unhappy about seeing his playing time fall off. Sulaimon’s minutes have decreased, as has his production, every season following his freshman campaign, when he averaged 11.6 points per game in 29.2 minutes and was named to the ACC All-Freshman team. This season, Sulaimon had been averaging 7.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 19.3 minutes.
