A man who groomed a 13-year-old girl on Facebook before sexually abusing her has been jailed for six years.

Timothy Edwards, 57, from Oldham, was found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and attempting to incite sexual activity with a child.

He chatted to the girl on Facebook in February 2013 before abusing her at her home in December 2013.

Edwards was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

A jury also found him guilty of five counts of making and possessing indecent photographs.

Police said Edwards, of Walk Mill, Dobcross, asked the girl to send him explicit pictures and videos but she refused.

They continued to message before Edwards persuaded her to meet him and went to her house, police said.

He was arrested in January last year.

Det Sgt Lindsey Curry said: "Edwards actively pursued his victim because of her young age and sexually abused her.

"The girl was very brave to speak to police and disclose these crimes and I would like to commend her for that, as coming forward and disclosing the assaults that he committed against her must have been extremely hard."
