M4 oil spill causes 13-mile queues between Newport and Magor M4 lanes reopen after oil spill near Newport

Two lanes of the M4 are closed and traffic is queuing for 13 miles between Newport and Magor because of a hydraulic oil spill. Two lanes of the M4 which were closed because of a hydraulic oil spill have reopened.
Traffic is backing up on the westbound carriageway from junction 28 at Tredegar Park and past junction 23a Magor services. It took traffic officers three hours to deal with the incident on the westbound carriageway between junction 29 for Cardiff and 28 for Tredegar Park.
Traffic Wales said journey times had been delayed by about an hour. Traffic Wales said it happened just before 16:00 GMT causing 13 miles of tailbacks to Magor.
It added traffic was slow and heavier than normal on the eastbound carriageway near junction 28. The two lanes were closed for safety while the spillage was cleared, and traffic also built up eastbound.
It estimated that the disruption would last until about 21:00 GMT.
A Welsh government spokesperson said its traffic officers are currently on scene dealing with the incident.
The two lanes have been closed just after junction 28 for safety following the spill, which happened just before 16:00 GMT, Traffic Wales added.
