A climber has died after being caught in an avalanche in the western Highlands.

The man was found after a companion reached search and rescue teams on foot following the incident on Coireag Dubh Mor in the Torridon area on Saturday.

Torridon Mountain Rescue Team and Stornoway Coastguard Helicopter had been alerted after the men failed to return from the area on Friday.

Police said the search had been conducted in poor weather conditions.

Both men, who have not been named, were from Suffolk.

They were experienced winter climbers and were well equipped.

A report is being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
