A bomb alert that has caused a number of homes in a Londonderry housing estate to be evacuated is likely to continue overnight. A suspicious object has been found during a bomb alert in a Londonderry housing estate.
Police said they received a number of phone calls to say a bomb had been left in a laneway at the entrance to the Currynierin estate. A number of homes remain evacuated in the Currynierin estate. The alert is to continue until Tuesday morning when the object will be examined in daylight.
Ch Insp Tony Callaghan said they were treating the claims "with utmost seriousness". Some homes will remain evacuated and parts of Ardmore Road and the estate are still closed to traffic.
