Uefa fines Celtic for bad fan behaviour in Zagreb

Celtic have been fined €10,000 (£7,300) by Uefa for the crowd disturbance during their 4-3 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League in December. The Scottish champions were reprimanded by Uefa after flares were set off and fans clashed with police at the away end during the game in Croatia.
UefaEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body announced the fine on Wednesday when Celtic were on their way to Italy for thelast-32 tie against Internazionale on Thursday, having drawn the first leg 3-3.
This is the fifth time in three years Celtic have been charged over the behaviour of their supporters during matches in Europe and their assistant manager, John Collins, has insisted it is “vitally important” that Celtic fans behave during their meeting with Inter .
“We are obviously disappointed,” he said. “We had 60,000 last week [for the first leg] and it was unbelievable behaviour from every one of them, the atmosphere. And that is what Celtic is all about.
“One or two [are] causing problems and hopefully that is the last we hear of it. They are representing a wonderful club and throughout the years the vast majority have been impeccably behaved and we have a great reputation throughout Europe. One or two we have to try to weed out.”
Collins confirmed the defender Jason Denayer, who did not return after half-time in Sunday’s 4-0 home win over Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership because of a calf problem, was fit and that he believes the club can go further in the Europa League. “We are away from home so we will be a little bit tighter early in the game but we will stay play our game, which is trying to pass and control the game,” he said.
“It would be a great achievement to go to such a place and win but we have to believe it. We will go there with no fear but lots of respect. They proved in the first game that they are a good football team. I don’t think they played typically Italian style, defensive and boring; I thought they were very expansive and tried to build from the back.
“But I think we can get at them. We scored three goals and created other chances and we can cause anyone problems on our day. We have to keep it tight at the back and not give any cheap goals away.”
Celtic’s manager, Ronny Deila, said of the task at Inter: “If we can get a historic win here, then it would be the moment of our lives.”
