Cut Russell Tovey some slack on gay correctness

Version 0 of 1.

Russell Tovey (Actor sorry for saying he avoided effeminacy, 4 March) is a highly regarded actor and not “spokesman for gay people at all times”. He gives a refreshingly honest response in an interview and now he’s at the centre of a specious storm for “self-hating” and for not giving the “gay correct” answer. He’s a brilliant example of gay actors not having to “play gay” to get diverse roles without reference to his own sexuality. Some might not agree with his off-the-cuff remarks, and he could perhaps phrase things a little better in the future, but we don’t all toe the same line all the time (how dreary would that be?). So give the guy a break for being out there, upfront, willing to take flak, and definitely one of the good guys. And he’s a damn fine figure of a man, too.Simon-Peter TrimarcoKings Langley, Hertfordshire
