Case of mistaken identity sees Elena Komleva in Canada receive hundreds of offers for sex intended for Russian woman with same name

Elena Komleva, a 29-year-old-woman in Russia last week posted an ad online requesting a “young, strong and healthy man,” to father her child as a way to stop her mother from nagging her about wanting grandchildren. The Daily Mail reported that Komleva's ad read: "My mother needs grandchildren to give them all the baby clothes she has been collecting. But nobody wants to marry me yet. "So, if you are young, strong and healthy drop me a line. My mother will be in charge of selecting the candidates and announcing the winner. She knows what I need." While she reportedly received many replies herself, another Elena Komleva, a 23-year-old communications student in Canada who became inundated with hundreds of messages of men offering her sex in response. Komleva, in Canada, told CTV News she first noticed something odd when a man wrote her a message on Facebook offering to impregnate her, but she took it as a joke. It wasn’t until someone sent her link telling her she had made it into Danish news that she realised many news outlets had covered the Russian woman’s story, but had incorrectly used her picture. She then became inundated with messages, comments, friend requests and followers. “I don’t want people to think I’m desperate and want a guy to get [me] pregnant,” she told the broadcaster. Komleva said has appreciated the positive attention she has received however, and posted a video to her YouTube channel thanking people for their kind comments. |
