Sorry – the page you are looking for has been removed The Sussex Alumni Network: a lifelong connection
(16 days later)
This is because it was advertisement feature content that was published as part of a commercial deal and funded by an advertiser. Fifty years after its first graduation ceremony, Sussex now has over 145,000 former students, scattered across every corner of the world. Even though they’re no longer studying here, they are still a big part of the university. Many of our alumni say: “You leave Sussex, but it never leaves you”.
It is Guardian News and Media policy to take down paid-for content at the end of these deals. The Sussex Alumni Network forms a close-knit global community, with members in almost every country. International alumni groups hold regular social events, giving their members the opportunity to reunite with old friends and meet other Sussex alumni. It’s a chance to make professional contacts and stay in touch with what’s happening at Sussex.
Click here for more on our commercial content guidelines. Marina Pedreira-Vilarino, Sussex’s director of development and alumni relations, says: “Whenever I attend our alumni events overseas, I am touched by the warmth and enthusiasm that our graduates have for Sussex, whether they graduated in the 60s or just last year.
If you want to contact someone about the page, you can email: “Keeping abreast of what our alumni are doing in their lives and careers is always fascinating and their willingness to help recent graduates, current and new students is clearly demonstrated by the hundreds of volunteers in our careers and consuls networks across the globe. Our alumni are our most committed ambassadors.”
paid-content@theguardian.com The American Friends of Sussex is our US alumni group, which has over 10,000 members. They hold regular events all over the country; a recent special reception in New York included talks from CNN anchor and Sussex alumna Becky Anderson and Nobel prize winner Professor Sir Anthony Leggett, who worked at Sussex from 1967-83.

Alumni consuls are a mainstay of the Sussex Alumni Network overseas. They are former Sussex students who live outside the UK and volunteer to act as ambassadors for the University in their home country. We have over 200 consuls around the world; many of them organise alumni events and are also happy to advise prospective students considering applying to Sussex. We briefly profile two consuls below.

I have an MA in development studies from Sussex and I’m currently working as a development consultant. My experience at Sussex was unforgettable. Sussex is a first-class place to study – it’s at the forefront of research and liberal thinking. I was fortunate to meet marvellous people from all around the world and to become friends for life with some of them. Without a doubt, Sussex changed my life.

I’m a partner at BITEPH Strategic Consulting in Kampala, Uganda. Looking back, Sussex was a great place to study. I remember coming to visit campus for the first time back in 2004 and right away, I knew it was home. I have such fond memories of the bonfires we had in the woods on campus, and having big discussions with friends about the issues of the day.
