Win a two-night break in Warsaw
(2 days later) | |
Think there’s nothing much to see in Warsaw? How about baroque palaces, a meticulously restored Old Town of cobbled squares and beautiful churches, and an energetic club and music scene?
The Polish capital may have been all but flattened by the Germans at the end of the second world war but today the city is well and truly back on its feet, and fighting.
Find out about the 1944 Warsaw Uprising at the Warsaw Rising Museum, discover Chopin at the Fryderyk Chopin Museum, housed in his birthplace, and learn the often tragic story of Jewish history at POLIN (the Museum of the History of Polish Jews). Then stroll through the Old Town (Stare Miasto) and soak up the lively nightlife at the Pavilions or in the cocktail bars around Plac Pilsudskiego and Plac Teatralny. You can even blow the cobwebs away the next day in one of Europe’s most beautiful parks, the perfectly landscaped Lazienki.
If a city break to one of Europe’s most cultural and energetic cities appeals, then this is the competition for you.
The Guardian has teamed up with Hilton Hotels & Resorts to offer one lucky reader the chance to travel to the Polish capital. Simply enter our prize draw and you and a friend could be spending two nights at the Hilton Warsaw, flights included. This thoroughly modern hotel is just 15 minutes’ walk from the Old Town and rooms have views of the city skyline. The Meza restaurant serves dishes made from locally reared meats and fresh local vegetables, while the Pistachio Lobby Bar offers classic cocktails beneath soaring glass windows. There’s even a 25-metre indoor swimming pool and full-service spa.
