The NSW Coalition government is set to score a clear victory, winning many marginal seats it expected to lose, opinion polls show.

The latest Fairfax/Ipsos poll showed the Coalition leading Labor by 54% to 46% on a two-party-preferred basis, an improvement of one percentage point on February.

A Galaxy poll released by the Daily Telegraph on Sunday echoed those results, and showed the Coalition ahead of Labor in the marginal seats of Campbelltown, Coogee and The Entrance.

It said the polls suggested the NSW premier, Mike Baird, might lose as few as 10 seats at Saturday’s election.

This result would leave the Coalition with 57 seats in the Legislative Assembly and Labor with 33 or 34, depending on how the Greens poll in Sydney’s inner west.

NSW voters are also set to get a first look at the numbers behind Labor’s election promises when the Parliamentary Budget Office hands down its costings report.

The Coalition has repeatedly warned that voters cannot trust the opposition’s cornerstone spending promises – including $323m for a major redevelopment of Sydney’s Concord hospital, and rail links to the Badgerys Creek airport site – because there has not been enough transparency about where the money would come from.

Labor’s leader, Luke Foley, said he was looking forward to the costings report from the independent office on Monday.

“Labor has cooperated fully ... we have put to them all of Labor’s expenditure commitments,” he said on Sunday.

With only five days left until voters head to the polls, Foley is expected to start his day in southern Sydney, while Baird is expected to campaign in the city’s west.
