Members of the US-led coalition struck targets in Iraq and Syria overnight between Saturday and Sunday as part of the fight against Islamic State militants, according to a press release from the Combined Joint Task Force. | |
The attacks struck 14 targets in Iraq and one in Syria, including positions held by militants near the cities of Mosul, Tikrit and Fallujah. | |
The strikes followed 18 which were carried out in the two countries on Friday and Saturday. 11 of those strikes were around Tikrit, where Iraqi forces are fighting Isis for control of the hometown of Saddam Hussein. | |
Strikes began in Iraq on 8 August and in Syria on 23 October. More than 2,000 strikes have been carried out. |
