A pair of armed attackers have been shot in a raid on Istanbul's police headquarters, BBC News has reported. Turkish police have shot two attackers outside Istanbul's police headquarters, killing one of them, according to local media reports.
At least two officers were injured in an exchange of fire in the capital, according to a report by Turkey's Dogan news agency seen by Reuters.
Footage on the Dogan website showed a person lying on the ground, as police used vehicles to close off the street in the Aksaray area of central Istanbul.
An official at the police headquarters confirmed to Reuters that gunfire was heard outside the building, but declined to comment on any casualties, saying all units were on alert and that a statement would be released late.
The incident comes after two members of the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) took prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz, 46, hostage in his Istanbul office yesterday. The incident comes after two members of the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) took prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz, 46, hostage in his Istanbul office yesterday.
