Northern Ireland's first minister Peter Robinson is ill and has been admitted to hospital, the DUP has confirmed. Northern Ireland's first minister Peter Robinson has been admitted to hospital with a suspected heart attack.
A party spokesman has confirmed that the party leader felt unwell on Monday morning. Mr Robinson, 66, was taken to the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, on Monday morning after he became ill.
"He has been admitted to the hospital for some further tests," the spokesman said. He was then transferred to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital where he is undergoing tests.
There are no further details. The Robinson family have requested privacy at this stage. There are no further details about his condition.
Mr Robinson has served as first minister in Northern Ireland since 2008.
Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness tweeted that he was concerned to hear the news.
"My thoughts and prayers are with him, Iris and family," he said.
Ulster Unionist leader Mike Nesbitt said: "I am sorry to hear that the first minister has been taken into hospital this morning and I wish Peter a full and speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with him and his family."
