A man had a lucky escape when the wall of a house fell on his car while he was sitting inside.

Paramedics treated the man, in his 60s, for a small head injury after part of a neighbouring wall collapsed on his car while it was parked on the shared driveway. Brick rubble and debris crushed the car and another vehicle, after falling six metres (20ft) to the drive below.

West Midlands ambulance service said it was a miracle that the man, who was able to get out of the wreckage unaided, escaped more serious injury at the scene in Richmond Hill, Oldbury.

A spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff arrived they found a badly damaged car covered in bricks parked on a driveway in between two houses. The second-storey outside wall of the neighbouring house had collapsed on to the car while a man was sitting inside.

“Much to the amazement of ambulance staff, the man who had been in the car was out of the vehicle. Upon assessment, he was found to have sustained a minor head injury.” The man was taken to Sandwell general hospital for further assessment and treatment, the spokesperson said.

A West Midlands fire and rescue service spokesman said specialist crews left the scene in a safe condition.
