Version 0 of 1.

As we enter Carers Week (8-14 June), the government must recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities, and make dramatic changes to the payment criteria of carer’s allowance. Many disabled people are cared for by disabled people, and the constant attack on carers’ benefits has a disastrous effect on those being cared for. We also need a national care agency to stop the problem of care companies failing spectacularly.Gary MartinLondon

• What a delight it was to read a sensible, knowledgable, positive letter in the Guardian about homoeopathy (The black spider letters, 5 June). If only more people would write to ministers in a similar way. Those of us who have for many years used and benefited from homeopathic medicines, as part of the range of treatments available on the NHS, should speak out and ensure all people can continue to have access to them across the UK.Katrin McClureCottingham, East Yorkshire

• Suzanne Moore’s article (Why ban laughing gas?, G2, 4 June) reminded me of my mother’s lifelong psychotropic addiction. Whenever she brought in washing that had dried on a sunny, windy day, she would bury her face in it and inhale deeply. Her expression was ecstatic. Maybe it should have been banned, because it left her three daughters with the same worrying behaviour.Laraine SurridgeAudenshaw, Greater Manchester

• Your report on the dangers of office workers sitting down for too long (2 June) says “those who sit the most have … a 17% higher risk of mortality”. We all have a 100% risk of mortality; it is just when and how it happens that varies.Mike SmithUpton, Wirral
