Lord Prescott has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in his Jaguar.

The former deputy prime minister and Hull East MP drove at 60 mph in a 50 mph zone at Scampton, Lincolnshire.

Prescott, who was also transport secretary, said he had no excuse , especially as he had been involved in anti-speeding legislation.

He was banned because he had accumulated more than 12 penalty points on his licence.

Prescott was also banned in 1991, for driving at 105mph on the M1.

His latest case was heard at Grantham Magistrates' Court, where he was fined £250.

He said his latest infringement was late at night on his way home to Hull.
