A family has paid tribute to their three-year-old boy, who is believed to have been killed by a car driven by his own mother.

Liam Turner died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries when he was hit by the car on Adland Road, Carbrooke, Norfolk.

His family issued a statement on Monday, saying: “We are devastated by the loss of our darling little man. Liam was a happy, content little boy who was always smiling and laughing.

“He had a wonderful sense of humour and brought joy to the lives of everyone who knew him. He was deeply loved. Life will not be the same without him. We ask for space to come to terms with our grief.”

Liam is believed to have been playing with his six-year-old sister when he was struck by the vehicle some time after 2pm. His father reportedly picked him up and drove him in the direction of a hospital before flagging down an ambulance.

He was taken by air ambulance to Norfolk and Norwich University hospital where he was treated, but he died on Monday evening.

Faye Hardman, a neighbour and family friend of the Turners, told ITV News that Liam’s mother was devastated and heartbroken.

“I couldn’t imagine what she is going through,” said Hardman, whose children attend the same nursery as the Turners.

“I am upset and I just knew him so for a mother to be in that situation … it’s just unthinkable. It doesn’t seem real that that has happened and he’s gone now.

Adland Drive was sealed off for a time as investigations were carried out by police, who have asked witnesses to contact the serious collision investigation team on 101.
