A woman in her 20s has died in an incident on Llantwit Major beach in the Vale of Glamorgan, the Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed. A 24-year-old woman has died after a rock fell on her head on a beach in south Wales.
It is believed the woman was killed by rocks falling from cliffs but the exact details are still unclear. Emergency services were called to the beach in Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, just before 17:30 BST on Thursday.
An ambulance service spokesman said they were called to the incident just before 17:30 BST. An ambulance service spokesman said: "It was a report involving a 24-year-old female where a rock had fallen on her head.
Emergency services are still at the scene which is under the control of South Wales Police. "Unfortunately she suffered fatal injuries from that."
A rapid response vehicle and a hazardous area response team were sent to the scene. Milford Haven Coastguard said it sent staff to assist police and the Wales Air Ambulance was also called out, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wales Air Ambulance was also called out. A kitchen assistant at the nearby Beach Cafe said a friend of the woman was treated for shock following the incident.
BBC Wales understands a coastguard rescue team was also brought in to assist. "It was horrible. A lady was here with blood on her face. She was her friend. She was okay but she was in shock," she said.
A police spokesman said: "South Wales Police officers are in attendance at an incident at Llantwit Major beach which was reported shortly before 5.30pm this evening. Elenid Carlig, the landlady at the Old White Hart pub in the town, said: "The heritage coast is hugely popular with ramblers and dog walkers... it's just so sad."

The police appealed for witnesses or anyone who was visiting the beach at that time to contact them. "It's a Jurassic coastline and that's why they put notices warning of rock falls."
In a statement released on Thursday evening, South Wales Police said: "Officers are in attendance at an incident at Llantwit Major beach which was reported shortly before 17:30 this evening. A woman in her 20s has been declared deceased."
