Baroness Jenny Jones, Green Party peer, tweeted: "So sad and such a waste. What is being done to make tipper trucks safer?
"Ban all tipper trucks and large lorries at rush hour to give cyclists and pedestrians a chance to stay safe."
A spokeswoman for the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) group said she was "deeply saddened" to hear of the fatality.
"Whilst we do not yet know the circumstances of this particular case, fatalities like these underline how urgently we need proper, protected space for cycling, especially at junctions," she added.
The campaign group, which said six of the eight cycling deaths in London this year have involved HGVs, with construction lorries being the main type of vehicle involved, is calling for safer lorry designs to be adopted.
