While the BBC, ITV, HSBC the bank, Ted Baker the fashion house, a diplomats’ embassy to the Royal Navy are some of the places on offer from families in London, placements can be exchanged with overseas work experience.
A placement with an architect in Paris, aviation engineering in Singapore, spending time with an IVF specialist in Israel, and even a book shop in New York all have work experience placements available for swapping.
Some of the companies on offer from their employees on the site’s listings, however, have strict work experience placement procedures. The BBC careers website have an application window four times a year, offering two week placements to successful candidates, and said they are looking into the case.

Speaking to the Guardian Nick Simmons, the website founder, said: “This is not a zero-sum game, and myInternSwap is not cannibalising a fixed pool of placements.”
He said: “We want to debunk the myth that only white-collar, highly paid jobs can provide good work experience.”
Placement offers with a taxi driver, seamstress and mechanic are also on offer.
Simmons said although his family-run website could not guarantee the degree of social mobility within the site, “the opportunities are there. It’s a start.”
