Los Angeles police identifies unarmed man shot by police after waiving towel
Version 0 of 1. Los Angeles police have identified the unarmed man officers shot in the head as the man attempted to flag them down with a towel. The 48-year-old father of two was identified by police as Walter William DeLeon. Police also said that the investigation is still very much in early stages and they have no reasoning as to why Mr DeLeon would flag down officers the Los Angeles Times reports. The man’s son, William, told the paper that his father hasn’t woken up and remains in critical condition. "At first, I thought it was like a random person that did it. Then I found out it was the cops. I didn't understand why, because I know my dad wouldn't do anything to provoke it," he said. Mr DeLeon’s youngest son said that his father “just tries to get by” working as a construction worker. Liliana Preciado, an LAPD officer, told the Guardian that officers at one point believed Mr DeLeon was in distress and a possible victim. |
