Version 0 of 1.

A teacher who had sex with a girl shortly after she left his school has been banned from the profession.

Ben Probert, 61, was working at a school in the South West when he "abused his position of trust", said a panel.

It happened more than 10 years ago when the girl was aged between 16 and 18.

Mr Probert accepted his behaviour amounted to unacceptable professional conduct that could bring the profession into disrepute.

Hotel visit

The National College for Teaching and Leadership disciplinary panel in Coventry heard that the married father, who used to live on the Isles of Scilly, gave the girl money and texted, emailed and called her.

The panel said that "at some point after Pupil A left the school at the end of Year 11, and when Pupil A was at least 16 years old, their relationship became sexual in nature".

"This included allowing Pupil A to stay overnight at his home address and, on one or more occasions, staying at a hotel with her.

"The panel is satisfied that Mr Probert's actions were deliberate and aimed at sustaining what he knew was an inappropriate relationship with the pupil."

Mr Probert, who is now retired, offered no mitigation and the panel imposed an indefinite prohibition order on him to protect pupils, saying he posed a "continuing risk".
