One of two escaped killers that have been on the run from authorities in New York has been shot, US media is reporting. One of two escaped murderers has been killed after spending weeks on the run from authorities in New York.

The two inmates escaped on 6 June from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora. Prisoner worker Joyce Mitchell has been charged with aiding the inmates in their escape.
Prosecutors allege that she gave the men hacksaw blades, chisels and other tools that allowed them to saw through a steel cell wall and several steel steam pipes before bashing a hole through a brick wall and crawling through.
Ms Mitchell pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Authorities have also charged prison worker Gene Palmer with promoting prison contraband, tampering with physical evidence and official misconduct. They allege that Mr Palmer gave the prisoners frozen hamburger meat in which Joyce Mitchell hid the tools.
Mr Palmer's attorney denied that his client had any knowledge that the meat contained the tools.
Before their escape, Matt was serving a 25-to-life prison sentence for the killing and dismembering of his former boss, while Sweat was serving a life sentence for murdering a sheriff's deputy.
