The SpaceX rocket has blown up just two minutes after liftoff, NASA has confirmed.

Footage shows the rocket exploding mid air moments after take off from its launch pad in Florida on the way to the international space station.

It was the third attempt to launch the unmanned Falcon 9 SpaceX rocket to get supplies to the International Space Station.

The private space-launch operator behind it, owned by billionaire Elon Musk,  was planning for it to be the for first reusable rocket. In a tweet NASA said:

Falcon 9 experienced a problem shortly before first stage shutdown. Will provide more info as soon as we review the data.
