A woman whose dog chased a sheep off a cliff in Sussex has been cautioned by police.

The 27-year-old from Kettering in Northamptonshire agreed to pay the owner of the sheep £100 and has written a letter of apology.

She accepted a police caution for the offence of allowing her dog to worry livestock.

The sheep fell to its death from the cliff at Seven Sisters on 20 June.

Bernadette Peters-Shorter from Sussex Police, said: "People who are prosecuted can be taken to court and given heavy fines but after discussion with the owner of the sheep it was agreed that a police caution was the most appropriate punishment in this case.

"The dog owner is very apologetic and remorseful about what happened."
