A maths teacher who ran away to France with a 15-year-old pupil and sparked an international manhunt is due to be released from prison.

Jeremy Forrest, now 33, is scheduled for release from HMP Channings Wood prison in Devon after serving half of his five-and-a-half year sentence.

The former teacher was jailed for abduction and five counts of sex with a minor following his extradition from France 2012.

Previously, the girl – who cannot be named for legal reasons – said she would marry her former teacher. However, an unnamed relative alleged to The Sun that Forrest wished to sever all links with the girl.

“He accepts it is time to move on. He will find love one day but it will definitely not be with her. It's over as far as he's concerned,” another source reportedly told The Daily Express.

Following his release, Forrest will serve the remainder of his time on licence and has been banned from teaching for life. It is thought that he may move abroad in the hope of starting afresh.
