Bosnia: Memorial Ceremony Disrupted
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/12/world/europe/bosnia-memorial-ceremony-disrupted.html Version 0 of 1. A crowd of furious Bosnian Muslims jumped over fences and attacked Serbia’s prime minister with stones and water bottles on Saturday, marring the 20th anniversary commemorations of the massacre in Srebrenica, in eastern Bosnia. Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, a former ultranationalist, escaped serious injury. Mr. Vucic, right, in the center surrounded by bodyguards, said he was hit in the face with a rock as the crowds chanted “Kill, Kill.” The scene at a memorial center in Potocari, a Srebrenica suburb, overshadowed what was supposed to be a day of reflection and remembrance for the 8,000 Muslim men and boys slaughtered at the hands of Serb forces in Srebrenica in 1995. Two United Nations courts ruled that the killings constituted genocide. During the 1992-95 Bosnian war, Mr. Vucic was known for making incendiary statements about Bosnian Muslims. |
