Burundi: Presidential Election Delayed
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/12/world/africa/burundi-presidential-election-delayed.html Version 0 of 1. Burundi’s presidential election has been postponed by nearly a week, a presidential spokesman said Saturday. The spokesman, Gervais Abayeho, said the vote would be held July 21, six days later than originally scheduled. He said the postponement was made after a request by leaders from the East African Community, a regional bloc. Burundi has been hit by violence since April, when President Pierre Nkurunziza said he would run for a third term. Protesters say that would be a violation of the Constitution. |
