Man dies after going for a swim in sea in Blackpool

A 26-year-old man has died after going for a swim in the sea in Blackpool.

Ashley West, from Blackpool, went into the water near to Queen's Promenade around Shaftesbury Avenue.

His friends were unable to rescue him and the coastguard was called at about 20:20 BST on Saturday. He was pulled out near to the Uncle Tom's Cabin pub.

Mr West was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, but was later pronounced dead. Insp Steve Bradshaw said officers were supporting the family.
