According to Eurotunnel, people attempt to cut through fences around the terminal late at night, which leads to highly dangerous situations. “The favoured route was getting onto trucks on the motorway but we’ve recently expanded our capacity so we can get many more trucks into the protected area that saves them from the risk of intrusion on the motorway. Now the migrants try to go directly to the trains, attacking the fences.”
A Channel train can reach speeds of up to 90mph before it enters the tunnel. Eurotunnel has issued a series of warning notices around the site alerting people to the danger of trying to get onto the trains. It has also handed warnings out to all those in custody, to make sure they are aware of the risks they are taking.
