Magdelena Luczak, 29, was found dead in her cell at HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire early on Tuesday. She and her partner Mariusz Krezolek, were jailed for minimum terms of 30 years for killing her son Daniel Pelka at their home in Coventry. Daniel died from a head injury, but he had been starved and beaten over several months. He weighed a stone and a half when he died. One teaching assistant described him as a "bag of bones". Daniel was also forced to perform punishment exercises, confined in a locked box room, poisoned with salt, and subjected to cold water torture as part of what a judge described as a campaign of "incomprehensible brutality". His mother was found dead one day before what would have been his eighth birthday. The cause of death was recorded as hanging. The inquest at Derbyshire Coroner's Court was adjourned. |
