At least 19 suspected Boko Haram fighters from Nigeria and two Chadian soldiers were killed in fighting on Friday after the insurgents attacked a Chadian village on the banks of Lake Chad, a military official said. The soldiers from Chad forced the fighters back across the border into Nigeria, the official said. In Niger, government troops also fought with suspected Boko Haram militants just inside its border with Nigeria, security officials there said Friday. At least 30 suspected militants were killed by Niger’s Army, which began an operation on Thursday to search for Boko Haram fighters in villages near the border, the officials said. |
