A man has been charged with murdering a woman whose body was found at a property in Essex.

Officers were called to a flat in Booth Place, Burnham-on-Crouch, just before 16:00 BST on Friday.

Tributes left outside the block indicate the woman, in her 20s, may have been pregnant.

Factory worker Matthew Smith, 23, of Wood Corner Caravan Park in Maldon, has been charged with her murder and will appear before magistrates on Monday.

Floral tributes left near the flats include two which read: "To Becky and bump rest in peace... God has gained two angels", and "Becky and bump rest in peace our beautiful angel".

Det Ch Insp Martin Pasmore, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "This is a very sad and distressing incident where a young woman has lost her life in tragic circumstances."
