The disgraced former Queensland MP Gordon Nuttall has been released from jail after spending six years behind bars for corruption.

The former Labor minister left the low-security Palen Creek correctional centre, about 100km south of Brisbane, early on Monday.

He was taken to his daughter’s home at Boondall, in Brisbane’s north, and then driven away in a ute at about 7am.

Nuttall was jailed for seven years in 2009 for receiving more than $360,000 in secret commissions from businessman Ken Talbot and WorkCover Queensland director Harold Shand.

In late 2012, five years was added to his sentence after he was found guilty of perjury and taking $150,000 in kickbacks from businessman Brendan McKennariey.

The court of appeal in 2011 ruled Nuttall’s conduct was so serious that his total jail time should be extended from 12 to 14 years, pushing his parole eligibility date back to now.

He was released on Monday under strict conditions, including that he live with his daughter and undergo drug and alcohol testing.

He is also banned from licensed venues and from drinking at restaurants, and from speaking to the media.
