Buttsbury Juniors under-12 boys team won the Danone Nations Cup after beating a team from Jersey 4-0 in the final. The tour of their home town was kept secret until the bus turned up along with parents. Ann Robinson, head teacher, said: "They were delirious and it was a great end to the school year." The Danone Nations Cup took place around the world, with 1,500 teams competing in the English Schools' Football Association's small schools category won by Buttsbury. 'Very proud' The finals took place at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Shropshire, in June with the Billericay team beating Victoria College Preparatory School from St Helier to lift the trophy. Buttsbury Junior is a state academy with 500 pupils and also has tag rugby, basketball, athletics, cross country and cricket teams. Ms Robinson said: "Sport is a big part of the school and we've never seen such success at this level. I'm very proud of them. "We kept the open-top bus a secret and they were amazed to see it." |
