Crews were called to the property in Barr Street at about 20:10 on Monday. Two fire crews were sent to the three-storey building in the town's Barr Street at about 20:10 on Monday.
They found a well-developed fire inside a three-storey block of flats. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they were met with a "well-developed fire".
Police Scotland said a 53-year-old man was found in one of the flats and pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is under way.
