The death of a baby girl just hours after being born will be investigated by a health board.

Claire White, 27, and her partner James Eden, 36, from Cwmbran, Torfaen, believed more could have been done to save their daughter.

She survived for about seven hours after being born at Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital in March.

An Aneurin Bevan health board spokesman said a full review is being carried out and apologised for the delay.

Ms White said her pregnancy showed nothing unusual until she began retaining fluid.

Her daughter was born a month early, on 28 March, but had fluid on her lungs. She was put on life support, but died later that day.

A health board spokesman said: "We are carrying out a full review of this case in order that we have all the information to discuss with the family and sincerely apologise for the time this has taken, we appreciate that waiting for the investigation to be completed is very distressing for all.

"We will of course meet immediately with the family to share our findings as soon as this work is completed, we anticipate being able to give a date for this meeting to the family within the next few days."
