Stairlifts recalled in US after deaths in Britain, say authorities
Version 0 of 1. A British-made model of stairlift is being recalled in the US after people were killed in the UK when the seats fell apart, according to US authorities. Acorn Stairlifts was recalling about 34,500 motorised stairlifts after deaths involving the mechanical chairs, the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the US said. Acorn had received two reports of the seat post separating from the main support, resulting in deaths in Britain, the statement said. There were no reports of US incidents or injuries. The company’s recall of the machines used to carry people up and down stairs involved five versions of the Acorn Superglide 120 model, the commission said. The stairlifts were sold from March 2007 to December 2011 for about $3,400 and were manufactured in Britain, the agency said. |
