Version 0 of 1.

A serious case review has been launched following the murder of a two-year-old boy from Coventry.

Khaleel Hussain died in 2013 from injuries deliberately inflicted on him by his mother's boyfriend at home.

Keith Brown, 23, of Swan Lane, was jailed for life while the boy's mother, Samina Kauser, 25, of Richmond Street, received three years for allowing the toddler's death.

The board behind the review said it was "not designed to apportion blame".

Coventry Safeguarding Children Board, a multi-agency body made up of health, council and voluntary representatives, commissioned the review.

It said: "[The review is] not designed to apportion blame but to discover whether more could or should have been done to help Khaleel by the agencies involved in his life.

"We welcome the convictions in this case and aim to publish the [review] into Khaleel's death in the coming weeks."

Coventry City Council said Khaleel was not known to social services.

A jury unanimously returned guilty verdicts on Brown and Kauser on Friday and they were sentenced on Tuesday.

It was revealed in court that Brown had previous relevant convictions of assault and battery against a former partner.

Khaleel suffered a serious brain injury, consistent with shaking, impact or both, which the prosecution said was deliberately inflicted by Brown.
