An explosion at a flat in Leeds that led to a number of homes being evacuated is believed to have been caused by a bag of fireworks being thrown through an open window. Bomb disposal officers were called to Clark Mount, in the East End Park area, at about 18:50 on Tuesday after windows of a ground floor flat were damaged. Residents were allowed to return to their homes at about 22:00. West Yorkshire Police said no-one was hurt in the blast. A force spokesman said the incident was still under investigation but "enquiries suggest a bag containing fireworks had been thrown through an open window at the ground-floor flat". Acting Det Insp James Entwistle said: "The nature of this incident is clearly a cause for concern and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and trace those responsible. "There were a number of people in the property at the time but thankfully no-one was injured although the consequences could have been much worse." |
