A CrossCountry passenger service carrying more than 40 people struck the empty car at about 19:25 BST on Monday but was not derailed.

Three people on board the train were treated for back pain.

Mr Mather, of Pearl Close, Oakwood, Derby, faced magistrates in Burton on Wednesday morning and was remanded in custody.

He is next due to appear at Stafford Crown Court on 10 August.
